Tonight is the first of three meetings between the Celtics and my beloved 76ers. The Celtics have won 5 straight games and are only a game behind the Sixers, which is surprising that the Sixers are still even in first after the loss of almost all their big men for a while. Here is the thing about the Sixers. They play the good teams tough but don’t have the scorer yet to win them those 1-2 point games. When they play teams that aren’t in the top 5 in the league, they usually demolish them and that is what I am expecting them to do to the Celtics tonight. The Sixers have the number one defense in the league, and the Celtics are lucky to put up 90 points a night, most nights falling somewhere in the mid 80’s. Pair that up with the fact that the Celtics are playing on back to back nights, and I am looking for a 15-20 point beating by my Sixers. Sure the Celtics play some good defense, but honestly I just think they are too slow and old for this Sixers team. I can see the Sixers running up and down the court in transition all day, so look for a large discrepancy in fast break points tonight. Plus the Sixers bench is 100 times better than the Celtics. This game is a power move in the Atlantic. These are the only two teams with a chance of winning it, and it’s questionable to even give the Celtics a chance in my opinion. The Knicks are garbage and so are the rest of the teams in the division, so this game will clearly show who should win the Atlantic. Also, if you are a Celtics fan, prepare yourself for a long couple of weeks. After tonight the Celtics began playing some West teams, starting with the Trailblazers at home but then a West Coast road trip to LA, Golden State, Sacramento and Denver, wrapped up by games at Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philly again…good luck.

I know it’s only a few weeks into the new NBA season, but how worried should Celtics fans really be right now? 4 wins in their first 11 games, and all four coming against the leagues 3 worst teams (Washington, Detroit, New Jersey). It seems they are having an extremely hard time scoring points, having not cracked 90 in their last six games. KG has definitely lost a step on, and it’s showing on the defensive side of the ball and the Celtics not being able to come up with stops when they need to. I have to admit, as much as I hate the Celtics, I still thought they would come around, but after the game against Dallas a few nights ago I completely had a change of heart. The Celtics were 4-4 and looking to get back on track after a loss to the Pacers, and the Celtics had 5 days off to get ready for the Mavericks game. Yes, five days off which in this shortened season is like a 2 week vacation. If you can’t beat a team who played the night before, at home, after you had five days off then there are some serious flaws in your team. Doc needs to evaluate his team right now and find out a solution quickly before it’s too late. This team is old and needs to get young real quick seeing as the rest of the season is filled with back to backs and even a few back to back to back games.
The Celtics and Heat are set to square off in about an hour on TNT, thank god. The longer I can go without having to hear Tommy Heinson’s voice the better. The Celtics are coming off a disappointing loss against the New York Knicks on Christmas day, and the Heat are coming off an impressive redemption win against the Mavericks as their 2011 Championship banner was raised to the rafters. It appears Paul Pierce won’t play again tonight, which is a huge loss for the Celtics. I did not get to watch any of the Christmas day game, but Rondo lead the Celtics with 31 points and 13 assists, having a very good game. I was not surprised that he played well. Rondo obviously can’t feel very secure being in Boston as they nearly traded him away in the offseason for Chris Paul, so it is in Rondo’s best interest that he plays at a very high level every game or he could be out the door. In my opinion, the Celtics know that Rondo is a pretty good player, but only if he has a supporting cast. With the big 3 nearing the end of their days in the NBA, the Celtics organization knows that in a few years, Rondo could be the only big name left in Boston (that is assuming you consider Rondo a big name). Chris Paul, as we all know, can at least keep a team afloat without a supporting cast, but I do not have much faith that Rondo could do the same. Look for Rondo to have another big game tonight with Pierce out, but for his efforts to come up small again. The Heat big 3 have a year under their belt now, and this year they could be a very scary team.
