Reasons the Patriots should win…blah blah blah

Writing about favorites and why they should win just isn’t fun at all, especially when they are playing against a guy you really like. But being that I was offered a spot on profootball-fans.com to be the writer for the Patriots for the rest of the season (so basically I’m done after Saturday) I found myself trying to write good things about the Patriots. It honestly did hurt to have to force my brain to think of the obvious and the likely, instead of trying to find the ways the Broncos could win. It’s not like I am anti-Patriots, I actually even used to be their biggest fan. Winning just gets old to me, if your team wins every year what fun is that? You need the losing and hardships to make winning feel that much better. I can’t imagine how awesome it was for the Giants fans when they beat the Patriots. Either way, I am about to write some good things about the Patriots and why they should win on Saturday.

1. Tom Brady- This is my only logical reason. You can break the game down to whatever angle you want but there is only one thing the Patriots control that will win them the game and that’s Tom Brady. The defense stinks, we all know that,  so you know they aren’t going to stop the Broncos offense unless they turn the ball over, but it will be on a horrible mistake by the Broncos not a good play by the defense. If Tom Brady gets his time in the pocket, which might be questionable seeing as the offensive line is pretty banged up right now, he will pick apart the Broncos defense. Tom terrific will be the 2nd best quarterback in Gillette Stadium on Saturday nigh. That’s because John Elway will be sitting in the press box. Got you! You thought I was going to say Tim Tebow. I’m not that dumb, well maybe. Anyways, if Brady plays flawless which he usually does the Patriots will win regardless of whatever else happens in the game.

On a side note, there is something strange brewing in New England. I have been religiously watching Felger and Mazz lately, and heard some talk that made me think a little. Could Josh McDaniels be back because Bill is heading out soon? Why else would you take an offensive coordinator job if you could almost positively get a head coaching job somewhere else in the NFL? Makes me think McDaniels is next in line for the job. What is going on in the world anyways? When’s the last time a Bill Belichick defense has been this horrid? And why did Bill O’Brien choose to leave the offensive coordinator of the best offense in the NFL to go get raped by Sandusky at Penn State? Shout out to Ray Allen last night for helping the Sixers loss last night not feel so bad. 5 Reasons Tim Tebow Will Beat the Patriots

Now I know most of you reading this are Patriots fans and you probably won’t read this, but if you are overconfident in this game, I suggest you do read it. Sometimes I write ridiculous things on here just to get reactions out of people but this isn’t one of them. I am about to tell you why the Broncos are about to go into Gillette Stadium and beat the Patriots on Saturday, because it is not as far-fetched as some of you might think.

5. Week 15- Patriots 45 Broncos 23- This first game played a few weeks ago was won pretty easily by the Patriots. However, there were a few things of concern for the Patriots out of this game. The Broncos held a 16-7 lead in the 2nd quarter when Lance Ball put the ball on the ground as the Broncos were about to begin driving again. That led to a Pats TD. Next possession, Tim Tebow put the ball on the ground, which led to a field goal and gave the Patriots the lead. Next possession was a punt and the Patriots added another touchdown, and finally they forced the Pats to punt with about 20 seconds left when Quan Cosby muffed the punt and handed the Patriots another 3 points. After you play so good then hand the Patriots point like that, it’s hard to come back from. Not only that, the Patriots as a team in the last 3 years have had much difficulty beating good teams after they had beat them in the meeting before. Last year they beat the Jets 45-3 in week 13, then came up short in the Divisional Round 28-21 to the Jets. 2009, they beat the Ravens 27-21 in week 4 then got owned at Gillette in the Wild Card round by the Ravens 33-14. Also that same year, they  beat Miami in their first meeting of the year and lost to them a few weeks later. A trend that is very apparent in the NFL is that it is very hard to beat a team twice. Something about this league makes it hard for you to beat a good team twice. I’m not talking about the Buffalos and Rams of the world but beating good solid teams. Maybe the Patriots will be able to break this mold but it definitely plays a role in this game

4. Patriots 31st ranked defense- This Pats defense is absolutely terrible. I can honestly say I have never seen a team in the NFL with a defense this bad make a run in the playoffs. They are not going to pull a Steelers and put 10 in the box daring Tebow to do what he does best and throw the deep ball, but they are going to play soft and allow this Broncos team to run. Mind you, Willis McGahee played sparingly in the first meeting nursing an injury, and the Patriots allowed Lance Ball to rush for 64 yards on 11 carries and even McGahee for 70 on 7 carries which were mostly in the first quarter. Tim Tebow added 93 on the ground, and this run game mixed with the fact that the Patriots will be allowing them to run is ingredients for a limited Tom Brady. Denver can control the clock if they keep it close and add a few early scores, and if Brady is only getting 7 or 8 possessions in the game, every possession is put under a microscope and adds that much more pressure. We all saw Tebow embarrass the Steelers defense on Sunday averaging a ridiculous 31.6 yards per completion and throwing for the most yards this defense had allowed all year. Bill Belichick does not want Tebow to beat them, and rightfully so, but pick your poison. Broncos can control the clock and the game with the run game, and if they clean up the turnovers it will be a totally different game.

3. Pressure on Patriots/Not Broncos-While Tim Tebow plays his best football when the pressure is on, there is not much pressure, if any, on this Broncos team to win this week. They won their unlikely home game against the defending AFC Champions, in what could have been Tebow’s last game as a starting quarterback (or at least what some fans actually believed). On the flip side, the Patriots fans are getting restless. For 3 of 4 years, they had seen their team win the Super Bowl. They saw their team go to the Super Bowl in 2007 going for the perfect season which was bitterly ended by the Giants. They haven’t quite been the same playoff team since then. Something has been missing in the playoff games they had, and both of their losses since then have come at home which is quite disturbing. The amount of pressure on this Patriots team not only to win this game but to win the Super Bowl this year is enormous. Don’t get me wrong, if anyone can handle this pressure it’s Tom Brady. He probably deserves to win MVP this season, but I am not sure I can say the same for some of these other guys. Teams can easily break under the pressure, and it is win and, eh, we had a great season for the Broncos, and no other option but to win for the Patriots.

2. Tim Tebow’s leadership and sheer will to win


That was one of my favorite Tim Tebow moments ever. The famous Tim Tebow speech after Florida’s loss in his senior season with hopes for an undefeated National Championship. He has the ability to lead by example, and motivate his teammates and it has shown. Whether you want to give him credit for the Broncos run or give credit to the run game or the defense, whoever you want to give it to, those guys played inspired under Tebow. Kyle Orton could only muster 1 win with the same exact team, but he didn’t know how to motivate. One thing will be sure on Saturday night and that is the Broncos will be ready. Watching Tebow run up and down his sideline getting his guys pumped after he scored his touchdown, you could just tell guys feed off his energy, they love it. This guy is special, and sometimes it is the intangibles that can single-handedly win games.

1. Jesus really does want the Broncos to win- So in my last post, I showed you guys the picture of the halo over Mile High last week during the game. I told you about the fact that Tebow’s favorite Gospel passage was John 3:16 and he threw for 316 yards. In the past few days I have heard even more “coincidences”. Tebow’s completion percentage for the game was 31.6. The Steelers time of possession for the game; 31 minutes 6 seconds. The highest TV rating for a Wild Card game in NFL history, peaked at 31.6 million during the 4th quarter. Oh, and the wide receiver who caught the game winning touchdown, Demaryius Thomas shares his birthday of December 25th with a pretty special guy. Jesus is like poking us all in the face with these signs that he is the true Broncos GM.  It is truly a battle of good vs evil on Saturday. Jesus vs Satan. I don’t know about you but I would take Jesus any day, unless it’s the South Park Jesus then I’m not so sure.

NFL Divisional Round Preview

So last week I went 3-1 in my picks, not bad. Many people thought the New Orleans spread was way too high and many thought the Broncos would get blown out so I would say 3-1 was pretty respectable. We have great games this week, and you might be interested to hear my thoughts in this week of the underdogs. Lets start in the NFC:

New Orleans (-4) at San Francisco

I have really been on the Saints bandwagon the past few weeks. They have been unstoppable it seems on offense. However, the Saints success is  connected to their ability to play at home. The Saints on the road are a much, much different team. Many of us are still waiting for the 49ers to be the 49ers we know, and that’s the one’s that stink up the joint. It simply just hasn’t happened because this team is solid. They have a top 5 defense, and an oustanding running game led by veteran Frank Gore. I like the 49ers to get to Brees all day and make his life a living nightmare, and for the 49ers to come away with the win. The spread will probably even move higher to maybe a -7 for the Saints by game time but either way I like San Fran to cover. Tbow’s Pick- San Francisco +4

New York Giants at Green Bay (-9)

I really didn’t expect what I saw from the Giants last week. The Falcons looked terrible, and that was mostly due to the Giants constant pressure and ability to make a stop when they needed to. The Giants played the Packers tight earlier in the season, and I think this game will be very close. In the NFL, a lot of success is created from momentum. The Giants have been playing playoff games since week 14 and we all saw how dangerous a hot team like that can be in the playoffs as the Packers were the same type of team last year. I like the G-Men to shock the world in Green Bay with a victory behind the guy I hate Eli Manning. Tbow’s Pick- New York Giants +9

Houston at Baltimore (-9)

I have watched a few Texans games and I have watched a few Baltimore games this year and to tell you the truth, neither team really impresses me. Joe Flacco can play great at times but can also play awful. The Texans are just a solid team that plays great defense and can limit youre offensive opportunities with their run game. I think this is going to be another close game, definitely closer than the 9 point line. However, I do like the Ravens to win the game. This is surprisingly Joe Flacco’s first home playoff game, so I think he will play good. If you are betting the line, I like the Texans to cover but come up short. Tbow’s Pick- Texans +9

Denver at New England (-14)

No big deal. Just a halo over Mile High Sunday

When I saw this line open up at 14 points I wanted to vomit all over myself. The better Tim Tebow plays the less credit he gets, it’s insane. I am going to post a fully detailed post about the reasons why Denver will win on Saturday so I will keep this post short and give you the summary. Pats haven’t won a playoff game since 07. Denver won their home game and everything else is gravy, no pressure. The game they played in week 15 would have been a much different game had it not been for 3 second quarter turnovers, and the Patriots don’t do well in the playoffs against an oponent they beat easily a few weeks earlier (they beat the Jets 45-3 in week 13 last year then lost 28-21 in the Divisional Round) I like the Tebow’s to cover and win against Brady and Co. behind Josh McDaniels sabotage. Tim Tebow…Did You Ever Doubt Him?

John 3:16- “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” This is Tim’s favorite passage from the Bible, and at Florida displayed this on his eye-black often. Tebow threw for 316 yards today in an overtime win for the Broncos. Coincidence? “Believe” is a very overused but effective word. It is something that Tim does in his team, his faith, and his ability to win football games. It is also something Tebow fans and Bronco fans have in their team and quarterback. Many don’t like to hear the word when dealing with sports, but it is something very simple that makes a big difference. The 2004 Red Sox believed when their backs were against the wall, down 3 games to none in the ALCS against the greatest MLB Franchise. The New England Patriots believed when their star quarterback Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury and unknown backup, at the time, Tom Brady came in and led them to a Super Bowl. Maybe it’s just a word. Maybe saying you believe has no effect on the outcome in anything, but if you watch the Broncos this season you might have a whole new outlook on the word.

The Broncos piled up a whopping 8 yards of total offense in the 1st quarter, and found themselves in a 6-0 hole. For the first time in weeks, John Fox allowed his quarterback to play. Tebow was flawless in the 2nd quarter. Hitting on a 51 yard perfect pass to Demaryius Thomas, and then a beautiful 30 yard touchdown pass to Eddie Royal on the first drive of the quarter. Next possession, Tebow hit Thomas on another beautiful deep pass which led to a Tebow touchdown run. The Broncos receivers torched Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu. The offense cooled down in the second half, and opened the door for Big Ben to give his team a chance. Late scores by the Steelers tied the game up, but did any of you think the Broncos would lose? Ben Roethlisberger had a 10-3 record in the playoffs, as well as two Super Bowl rings. The Steelers also had the best defense this year, and Tebow ended the Steelers hope with an 80 yard touchdown pass to Thomas to seal the game on the first play of overtime. All week, we all heard how the Broncos wouldn’t score any points, and how they had zero chance in this game. If you were one of the people who gave them no chance, what do you say after a performance like that? They said Tebow couldn’t throw, yet he threw for the most yards the Steelers had given up all year. They said this was going to be Tebow’s last start as an NFL quarterback, yet he will be starting Saturday in Foxboro. If O.J. can get away with murder, Tim Tebow can win on Saturday.
